I am thrilled to be included in the 2013 Summer Tour of Homes hosted by Gina of The Shabby Creek Cottage.  If you are not familiar with how this works, all week 26 bloggers will all be sharing a glimpse into their own homes.  Today is the first day & it all starts with Gina’s lovely home.  At the end of each post there will be a link to the next home, so literally it is like you are walking a tour of homes!
So if you are hear from the previous tour at The Handmade Home welcome!!! Our home has been our DIY playground over the last few years.  Even though I am an Interior Designer, we started our home with little to no DIY experience or expertise.  After teaching ourselves how to build, well, anything, the right (& wrong!) way to paint a piece of furniture, nabbing roadside garbage and turning them into magazine worthy pieces we have had a blast transforming our home.  I fully believe that you don’t have to spend a lot to have a gorgeous space to live in.  (To keep it fresh for my hunters… there are a few new shots in the tour!)
So without further ado… Here is our home.
Our kitchen was updated for under $100 with some chalkboard paint, the removal of our cabinet doors, new hardware & some cost effective lighting!  A simple Goodwill Bowl was transformed into our pendant.
My desk was created from a desk we built from an old butcher block table & we added a hutch that was left on the side of the road.  It just so happened to be the exact size we needed & saved us from having to build one ourselves!
Our largest DIY undertaking has been our Dining Room.  We added the built in shelves that wrap around our french doors a few weeks before Do It Yourself Magazine came to shoot our entire home.  Talk about a deadline!
By the way… that gorgeous painting is a work by artist Erin Hanson.  She is graciously creating a custom piece for one lucky reader!  So if you’d like to get in on the giveaway, follow this link.
Our living room is getting a little overhaul at the moment… but here are a few of the old pictures.  One of the most asked questions I receive is “where are your draperies from!?”  Simply put.  They are painted Ikea panels.  So you too can have your own.
Who would have thought this crazy beat up dresser we found on the side of the road would have become a magazine worthy piece of furniture?!?  Well, it did.  After a little paint & some styling this green chest of drawers has since graced the pages of HGTV Magazine!
Our bedroom really shows my love of pattern mixing.  I am not afraid to put the unexpected together.  This room has really come into it’s own over the past few months.  Thanks to a few of these projects:
Our two year old (almost three!) was in need of a big girl bed, so we came up with this canopy bed idea utilizing her old crib skirt & a daybed we already had.  The transformation came out better than expected!  And she loves her “Princess Bed” & chandelier… (& has fortunately stayed in it every night since it went up!)
Her closet was our very first major project… like tearing down walls project.  Unfortunately it was pre blog… but it gave us the courage to be able to complete so many more projects.
We recently finished our patio for the Home Depot Style Challenge & are absolutely smitten with our new outdoor room.  Everything here was a project!  Well, almost…
Well that my friends (new & old) is our home.  There is a lot of love & hard work packed into 1000 square feet!  While the rooms are almost done, there is always a project (or twelve) happening around here.  If you liked what you saw I’d love for you to follow along on our crazy adventures.  You can either subscribe via email, or follow along via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram & of course I am always on Pinterest!
Be sure to check out the rest of the tour!! I am the last home for day 1, but be sure to check back tomorrow as the tour continues with Beckie from Infarrantly Creative!
